Lester/Delvin/L.D./Dad/Grandaddy/”Delvie” was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Lester Delvin Brown Sr. and Lily Allcock Brown on August 8, 1947. He lived a wonderful life of service to his Lord, family, friends, community, and country.
Delvin and Sharon were married for 56 years. Together, they have enjoyed these years traveling all over the United States, Mexico, and Canada. He especially enjoyed his time in Daisy Arkansas, the fall in the northeastern United States, Canada, and Cades Cove (Brown’s dirt) in Tennessee.
Delvin loved playing all types of games with the family and friends. Dominos, cards, and board games galore. The game of “Spoons” was vicious, but he loved it. Monopoly was also a favorite, but nobody liked to play it with him…
He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed many days golfing, camping, hunting, fishing, boating and water skiing.
Delvin and Sharon have two children. He sacrificed much of his time to provide the best opportunities for his children. Working multiple jobs at a time, providing a Christian education, coaching their little league teams, and teaching them to sing.
He served on the school board for many years including time as president of the school board at Lake Worth ISD where he was able to help the district build a new high school.
Grandaddy always said Berkley was the apple of his eye. They shared their love for reading and collecting books. Bookstores were happy to see them coming.
Delvie, as known by nieces, nephews, their children, and special friends, enjoyed spending time supporting all their endeavors through church programs, school programs, concerts, theatrical performances and holidays. He loved his family.
L.D., as they called him at the plant, retired from Lockheed Martin after over 40 years of service.
Most of all Delvin lived his life in the service of his Lord. He served in countless ways in the church and the community. He enjoyed singing and listening to gospel music. He knocked on doors, fed the homeless, went on mission trips and enjoyed working in all avenues of ministry. He led worship services praying, singing, preaching, vacation Bible school, performing baptisms, weddings, and funerals. He worked fervently with the youth group and created a sermon in song with “The Reflections”. He served as a deacon and an elder. He lived with a servant’s heart.
We are blessed to know he is no longer in earthly pain and singing with his God and family and friends in heaven.
