Lorraine Reed, of Ft. Worth, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2016, surrounded by her loving family after a nearly 14 year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Funeral Services will be held at Walnut Creek Baptist Church, 220 W. Reno Rd., Reno, Texas on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at nearby Jaybird Cemetery.
Born in 1934 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Lorraine thrived despite having a childhood during the Great Depression and graduated from Tuscaloosa County H.S. Lorraine married her first and only love, Spencer Allen Reed in 1954. Early in their marriage, she worked as a nurse tech, clerical assistant and even produced the Mobile International Speedway Program. Lorraine graduated from Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College as a Registered Nurse. As the Infection Control Coordinator at Oklahoma’s Norman Regional Hospital, she helped them earn their first accreditation for Infection Prevention. After retiring from Norman Regional Hospital, Lorraine earned her Certification in Post Anesthesia Nursing and worked in the surgical recovery unit at Midwest City Hospital. Her unit became an emergency triage area after the Oklahoma City Bombing and she treated several bomb victims after the Murrah Federal Building was attacked. After her second retirement, Lorraine and her husband, Spencer moved to Ft. Worth, Texas to be near their daughters and grandchildren. Lorraine loved her family and friends! Nearly always happy and optimistic, she had a laugh that could light up a room. She celebrated big for Birthdays and Holidays; all of them. Baptized at Overlook Christian Church in Alabama and a longtime member of Draper Park Christian Church in Oklahoma, Lorraine loved the Lord. She attended Walnut Creek Baptist church in Texas with her family and particularly enjoyed singing traditional hymns, even when her failing lungs made it difficult.
She was preceded in death by parents, Talmage Barger and Florida; brothers Nathaniel and Edgar; Son-in-law, William McClintock; brother-in-laws, Joe E. Reed, Joe Beranek, Sam Smith and Thomas Smith.
Lorraine is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years, Spencer Allen Reed; daughter Alana Baxter and husband Harold; daughter Jan McClintock; grandchildren, Marie and Allen McClintock, David Baxter and wife Jordyn; sisters-in-law, Juanita Beranek, Betty Scoggins and Sue Smith, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless close friends.
