Lothar “Pierre” Poppek, devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother was surrounded by his wife and three daughters when, after a brief illness, he was unexpectedly guided home to the Lord on May 25th, 2023, in Granbury, Texas.
Pierre was born on May 17, 1936, in Germany, to the late Wilhelm and Josefine Poppek. He immigrated to the United States in 1962 and he married Mary Lynn Henry in November 1991. Pierre always claimed that he was “German by birth… American by Heart.”
An animated storyteller, Pierre was gregarious, jovial, and always passionate in sharing his many tales of travel and adventure. He lived in several countries, spoke three languages, and had an unquenchable love for the outdoors that he shared with his daughters. He was a master hair stylist for over 60 years having trained in Germany and perfected his craft in Switzerland, Paris, and across the United States from New York to Hawaii. Pierre was young at heart, always looking for adventure and living every day to the fullest, and inspired his family to do the same. Even in the later stages of life, he discovered a newfound passion within his trade and was industrious, becoming an inventor who held several patents. He was a man who loved fiercely, wholeheartedly, who will be greatly missed by many. His final resting place will be at the foot of Pikes Peak in Colorado.
Pierre is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughters, Brigitte (Rob) Hutchins, Valerie (Scott, deceased) Farrar, and Shawnna Payntier; his grandchildren, Ryan, Brittany, Colton, Olivia, Eva, Ben, Hughston, and Cristian; great-granddaughters, Codi and Dillin; his brothers, Heinzie and Wolfie Poppek and their families; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
