Lowell Sammy Orr

Lowell Sammy Orr, 85, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016. A visitation will be held at Wiley Funeral Home in Glen Rose on Thursday, December 1st from 10am until noon followed by a graveside service at Georges Creek cemetery at 2pm.

Lowell lived with his wife of 63 years, Betty, in Aledo Texas since 1978. Born Oct 9, 1931 to the late Sam and Lovenia Orr in Fort Spunky, Texas. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951, received his GED from Glen Rose High School in 1953, and was married to Betty Joyce Mullen on June 21, 1953. Lowell served 27 years in the Air Force, where he was stationed in Strategic Air Command bases all around the world, served 3 tours in Vietnam and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1978. Lowell earned both a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in Engineering from Texas A&M. He worked for General Dynamics from 1978 to 1993. Lowell was a Freemason in good standing with Ridglea Masonic lodge. He was a member of the Scottish Rite. He served as director of the Aledo Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years. He worked as a farmer & rancher throughout his life. He was a member of the Parker County Cowboy church.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Betty Joyce Mullen Orr, 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and his sister, Sandy Sue Koontz.

Daughters are Cindy and husband Jack Jordan of Fort Worth, and Pamela and husband John Stanford of Southlake. Grandchildren are Scot Jordan & wife Margaret of Amarillo, with 3 great grandchildren, Azure, Paxton and Jackson, Sheri & husband Stefan Rothe of Austin, John W. Stanford III & wife Michelle of Southlake, Lowell D. Stanford & wife Courtney of Dallas and Thomas J. Stanford of West Point, New York.
