Lynn Roland Lane

Glen Rose – Lynn Roland Lane passed away Monday, December 24, 2018, at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.

Lynn was born March 19, 1928, and died December 24, 2018, at the age of 90.

Lynn was born at home, delivered by Dr. Pruitt on 305 Grace Street in Glen Rose, TX. Parents were Linnie and Neva Lane. He graduated from Glen Rose High School in 1945. He was class president and class valedictorian. He was on the basketball team.

He attended Texas A & M his freshman year, transferred to the U. of TX in Austin, TX. He graduated in 1950 with a degree as a Mechanical Engineer. He was in Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

He worked at Land Ford Garage and Dealership in Glen Rose until he was drafted for the Korean War. He requested the Army allow him to transfer to the Air Force because he got his pilot’s license when he was 18.

When in pilot training at Williams A.F.B. in Chandler, AZ in 1952, his flight instructor introduced him to Willa Joan Manes, who had Captain Strecker’s daughter in her class. He married Willa Joan Manes in Tucson, AZ on February 14, 1954. His squadron was sent to France. They had one son, Lee Nathan Lane, born at base hospital in Chateauroux, France on May 18, 1955. Lee died December 26, 2011 in Glen Rose while visiting his parents for Christmas. He lived in Moriarty, N.M.

After honorable discharge from the Air Force, he worked for Texas Instruments for two years, 1956-1958. He took a better job at Sperry Rand in Phoenix in 1958. Sperry was bought by Honeywell. He was an engineering department head at Honeywell when he retired in 1989. He was sent many places in the U.S. and overseas to solve problems with automatic pilot systems made by Honeywell. He was awarded several patents while with Honeywell. He returned to his home town of Glen Rose, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Linnie and Neva Lane; sisters Linnette Lane, Sammie Jean Lane Wright, Aletha Lane Moore, and his son Lee Nathan Lane. Survivors are his wife, W. Joan Lane, nieces Sherry Wright Baker of Haltom City, Debbie Wright Isaacs of Fort Worth, Becky Wright Gibbs of Fort Worth, Chris Bryant of Glen Rose who was like a son to Lynn, nephew Thomas Manes of Wimberley, TX and various other nieces, and nephews.

Burial will be next to his son at Squaw Creek Cemetery in Rainbow, TX. Service will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Wiley Funeral Home Chapel, in Glen Rose, with Visitation from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, on Friday, January 4, 2019, at Wiley Funeral Home, Glen Rose.
