Margaret Imogine Choat, age 85, passed away on February 8, 2021, at her home in Rainbow, Texas, following a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Our loss is heaven’s gain.
The youngest of nine children, she was born to Homer Bert Dunegan and Effie Lee Shepherd, July 20, 1935, in Checotah, Oklahoma. Her childhood and teen years were spent in Oklahoma. At the age of 20, she moved to Texas, where she worked as a waitress at the Lorenzo City Café. It was there that she met her husband, Floyd. They were married in Lorenzo, Texas, on June 15, 1957. She became a stepmother to Floyd’s sons, Terry and Gary. Together, they had four children: Roger, Ronnie, Jonathan, and Sharon, and enjoyed a beautiful marriage of over 63 years.
For her, faith and family were her top two priorities. She was a 45-year member of the First Assembly of God Church in Glen Rose, Texas. Her greatest joy was serving as Women’s Ministry leader there for 25 years. She had the gift of hospitality, making everyone she met feel special, loved, and cared for. She was known by many as their “second mother.” She gathered “children” of all ages everywhere she went.
She was a talented seamstress and loved making quilts. Many family members have beautiful works of art created by her. She loved playing board games with the family, and was happiest when the family was gathered around the table. Food, fun, and great memories always followed.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd, stepsons Terry, Gary (Rhenda), son Roger, daughter Sharon Katz (William), sister Martha Fairchild, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by sons Ronnie and Jonathan.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 11:00am and will be live streamed by the Wiley Funeral Home so that anyone interested may safely attend virtually.
Also due to the current pandemic there will be no formal visitation scheduled with the family. She will lie in state for anyone for viewing from 11am to 6pm, Friday, February 19, 2021 at Wiley Funeral Home in Glen Rose.
