Margaret Mary Pung

Margaret Mary McCarthy-Pung passed peacefully into eternal life on June 7, 2016 after 95 wonderful years with the many who so loved her. She was a cherished and respected daughter, sister, mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother during her long and fulfilling life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at Stephen Catholic Church Chapel, 211 S. Main St., in Weatherford. There will be a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will be present to receive friends prior to the rosary. Interment will be in Memory Gardens in Weatherford.

Her parents, Margaret Mary O’Brien-McCarthy and Siebelt McCarthy, brought Margaret into this world on Halloween night in 1921. The first of six incredible children, Margaret was blessed with brothers, Thomas and “Red” McCarthy, and sisters, Josephine Easley, Catherine Dalton, and Pat McWilliams. Only her sister, Pat, survives her at this time. Her parents’ hard work on their successful farm taught their children the value of family, faith, and service to others. Consequently, all four of the McCarthy sisters became nurses and spent their lives helping people in need.

Margaret graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Worth toward the end of World War II, and she moved to San Antonio, where she worked for the Sisters of Charity at Santa Rosa Hospital. She was delighted when her sisters joined her shortly afterward, and she was quickly recruited to Brook Army Medical Center (BAMC), where she practiced as an obstetrical/ neonatal nurse until she retired 30 years later.

While in San Antonio, Margaret met and married Harold (Harry) Pung, and together they raised seven children until he passed away in 1980, after which time she managed to do a wonderful job of dedicating her life to her home, her children, and her ‘work family’ at BAMC. She is well remembered by her children and grandchildren for her delightful culinary skills and ability to make all feel welcome and at home.

Margaret was welcomed into the home of her loving daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Joe Moore, after she retired. She moved to Dallas, where she was nurtured for the last ten years of her life, surrounded by her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by all of her children and their significant others, her nine grandchildren, and her three great grandchildren: Pegi Pung and Stephen Mills; Peter and Diana Pung; Patti and Joseph Moore; Thomas Pung; Kathleen Kotara; Kevin Pung; Paul Pung; Genny and Ken Pettifer; Tim Moore; Shane Moore; Meagon Moore; Tristen Kotara; Alden Kotara; Sidney Kotara; Cory Pung; Patrick Pung-Mills; Samantha Blossfield; Jack Blossfield; and Abby Blossfield.

She will be missed by all, as she was truly a saint in this world…
