GRANBURY, TEXAS- Margaret “Marge” McCool age 81 passed away on Friday, November 3rd, 2017 at Senior Care of Harbor Lakes after a period of declining health. Marge was born in Coney Island, Brooklyn on August 29th, 1936, the daughter of William and Margaret Kick. She met her husband, Eugene “Gene” McCool at the Paramount Theatre in New York City and they married on March 2nd, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York.
Marge and Gene moved to Maine in 1974. After retirement, they moved to Port Charlotte, Florida where they resided until moving to Granbury in 2015. Marge was a natural care giver and spent most of her career in health care, retiring from Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine.
Marge had a wonderful sense of humor and could always be counted on to make her family laugh. She enjoyed reading, Bingo and was a fierce Scrabble player. Sometimes her family would question if the words she used were real, but because of the honest person that she was, she always won the game. People enjoyed being in Marge’s company because of her fun loving personality and genuine nature.
Marge is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Gene of Granbury, sons Eugene McCool of Louisiana, Thomas McCool and wife Rose of Granbury, Texas, daughters Lynne Grimes and husband Roger of Florida, Maureen LaSalle and husband Christopher of Portland, Maine and thirteen grandchildren including Matthew, Megan and Rachel with whom she had an especially close relationship and numerous great grandchildren. Marge was predeceased by daughter Kathryn, son Michael and granddaughter Kellie.
A celebration of life for Marge will be held Sunday, November 26th at 12noon at Dolby Blais & Segee- Windham Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham, ME 04062. There will be a period of visitation prior to service from 11am to Noon. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery, Route 302, in Windham.
