Marjorie Morey passed away at her home in Pecan Plantation on December 16, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born in Stillwater, OK on July 20, 1927, the daughter of Dr. Paul G. Adams and Sylvia Rasmussen Adams. She received her undergraduate degree at Oklahoma A&M where she was an Engineering Queen and a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She later completed her Masters degree in Spanish at TCU. Career highlights include teaching Spanish at TCU and TCJC; working on Robertson Colony research and translating Spanish documents of early Texas settlements before Texas gained independence from Mexico; serving as Curator of Photographic Collections at Amon Carter Museum; and cataloging the works of artist Niki de Saint Phalle. While young, Marjorie was fortunate to have traveled to countries such as Cuba, Nicaragua, Honduras, Venezuela, Morocco, and others while her father, Dr. Paul Adams, Professor of Agriculture at Oklahoma A&M, worked for the US government to improve farming techniques for Latin American partners.
She met her husband of 60 years, Jack Allison Morey, while attending Oklahoma A&M and later raised 6 children in Arlington, Texas. In addition to living in Oklahoma and Texas, Marjorie and Jack retired to the mountains of Colorado for 10 years and lived briefly in California before returning to Pecan Plantation in 1993. They attended First Christian Church in Granbury.
Marjorie was a member of the PEO and DAR organizations and was a voracious reader, a lover of music, an accomplished pianist, a naturally-gifted hostess, cook and conversationalist, cub scout leader, and was the best Mom ever– patient, kind, unconditionally loving. She was loved by all who met her.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jack, her son Kenneth, her parents Paul and Sylvia Adams, her sister, Mary Ann Rucker, and brother Paul Adams. She is survived by her sons Gary, Warren, Craig, Joel, her daughter Karen, self-proclaimed sixth son, Steve Paschal, 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Marjorie is also survived by nephews, David and Kevin Rucker, Terry and Michael Adams, Steve Morey; niece, Marsha Russell; and cousins, Emelie Schroder family, Susie Adams family, and the family of Joe Adams.
A private burial service was held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on December 20, 2018. There will be a family reunion to celebrate her life and birthday next summer in Red River, New Mexico.
