She was born to Mitchell and Lucille Campbell. In 1948, she married the love of her life and soul mate, Billy M. Hicks, Sr.
She died at home surrounded by her loving family. She was truly the sweetest and dearest person we have ever been blessed with. Our memories will keep us thriving until we are together again. Mary was a farm girl, daughter, sister, wife, mother, “GrandMary”, college student, Teaching Fellow at UNT, and an amazing person. She loved reading, gardening, sewing, traveling and so much more. She was the most devoted wife and mother who taught by example and gave herself to our formative years. She knew both poverty and comfort, but at any time, her life was rich and full, and she made sure ours were too. She will be painfully missed… but equally, we are filled with joy and gratitude for having been born by her as our mother.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy M. Hicks, Sr.; daughters, Gerry Dawn Hicks Toten, and Merry Vonn Hicks; grand-daughter, Hannah Laurie Toten; daughter-in-law, Vicki Hicks; brother, Lane Campbell; parents, Mitchell and Lucille Campbell.
She is survived by her children, Kerry Cunningham (and husband Steve), Sherry Hicks, Terry Hicks, Billy M. Hicks, Jr., Brett M. Hicks; grandchildren, Israel Hicks and wife, Brandy, Julia Hindawi and husband, Moe, Vincent Hicks, Zoe Hicks, David Cunningham, Amber Nowell and husband, Peter, Heather Houpt and husband, Pete, and Danielle Stanley; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brothers, Jimmy Campbell and wife, Oramae, Larry Campbell and wife, Joy; sister-in-law, Ernestine Campbell and many other family members and friends.
