GLEN ROSE — Mary Nita Baird, 75, passed away at her home in Glen Rose, Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014.
Funeral: 10:00 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Wiley Funeral Home in Glen Rose. Burial: New Hope Cemetery in Gainesville, Texas. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Foster’s Home for Children, P.O. Box 978, Stephenville, Texas 76401.
Miss Baird was born June 25, 1938, in Clarksville, Texas, to Major Buck Baird and Willie Jane Hendricks Baird. Mary graduated from Walnut Springs High School in 1957. She graduated from Texas Woman’s University in 1960. Mary taught girls physical education for twenty seven years at Midland High School in Midland, Texas. She also taught driver’s education and coached a girl’s golf team that won the state championship in 1977. She had been a member of Tolar Church of Christ for several years and loved her church family there. Mary was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, Mack Allen Baird and sister, Margaret Perham.
Survivors: Sisters, Gail Chisholm of Glen Rose, Linda Wilson and husband, Mike, of Lubbock; nephews, Lyman Ricker Chisholm, Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., David Allen Perham of San Diego, Calif.; nieces, Donna Gail Chisholm of Speedwell, Tenn.; grand niece, Jessica Perham of San Diego, Calif.

Mary Nita touched many lives as she traveled through this world evident by her long teaching and coaching career. I am glad to have known her and to have been a classmate in elementary and junior high school. I have a fond memory of her in the sixth grade. I remember that she loved to play football and could throw a football farther than anyone else in the class. She was tough and would mix it up with us as we played "tackle" and hit just as hard as one of the boys. RIP my friend and thanks for the memories.
