Mechelina “Lieneke” Bouma

Surrounded by her family, Mechelina “Lieneke” Bouma passed away and rejoined her husband, Arnold Bouma, on May 3, 2016 at age 85 in Granbury, TX. A family memorial will be held Sunday, 2:00 PM, July 3, 2016 at the Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.
Lieneke was born July 3, 1930 to Herman and Mechelina Kampers in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
Lieneke’s early memories included strong impressions of living in Nazi-occupied Holland during World War 2. She learned to speak six languages, including Dutch, German, French, English, Italian, and Spanish. Lieneke studied anthropology, and worked as an administrative assistant until she married Arnold H. Bouma in January, 1960, and began her life-long work of assisting her husband with his work in Sedimentary Geology. Lieneke, Arnold and two sons Mark and Nils “Bobby” emigrated to the USA in 1966. A third son, Lars, was born in Texas in 1967.
Arnold’s work took the family to several locations including La Jolla CA, College Station TX, Sunnyvale CA, Corpus Christi TX, Butler PA, Richmond TX, Fullerton CA, and Baton Rouge LA, giving Lieneke the opportunity to make a home and friends across the US.
Lieneke loved cooking and was a self-taught gourmet chef. She enjoyed entertaining, reading and raising exotic orchids.
Lieneke made many friends across the US and around the world, as she and Arnold travelled on geological field trips and conferences. She especially enjoyed nurturing and encouraging many of Arnold’s geology graduate students.
Lieneke is survived by three sons and daughter-in-laws: Mark and Liz, Bobby & Gina, and Lars and Vicki. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren who miss their grandmother.
