MICHAEL GLEN CARMICHAEL
“He’s an awesome dad”, Heather said, a statement echoed by her twin brother, Adam. Michael Glen Carmichael, 78, went to heaven on January 22, 2018 and we all say, “See you soon” to a gentle giant, husband, father, mentor and a man with great integrity who loved Jesus with his whole heart.
Michael was born in Fort Worth, Texas on September 15, 1939 to Joseph and Margaret Carmichael. He was a third generation Granbury resident whose grandfather, Dr. Archibald Carmichael was a Granbury physician. He met and married the love of his live, Jeanette Bennett on October 5, 1963 in Glendale, California. The family moved back to Granbury in 1975 and now lives in Acton. His son, Adam, lives in Pflugerville, Texas.
Michael earned in B.S. from Arlington State College and moved to California to work for North American Aviation in the aerospace industry. He retired from General Dynamics, Fort Worth in 2005 and settled down as a “gentleman farmer”, caring for his cattle and bees on his land in Acton and Granbury.
His interest in politics led him to becoming an active member of the Hood County Republican Club, its Chairman for one term, and the Election Judge for Hood County in Precinct 10 for many years. He has also served as member of the Hood County Historic Commission.
Michael’s only brother, David, predeceased him, and he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeanette, his children, Heather and Adam, and his wife’s twin sister, Jeanne Bennett; as well as his sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and J.C. Campbell; nephews, John, Jerry and Joel Campbell, their wives, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nephews, Shawn and Brent Carmichael.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, North Central Texas Chapter, 2630 West Fwy., Ste. 100, Fort Worth, TX 76102.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29th at Wiley Funeral Home. 400 Hwy. 377, Granbury.
