Monica (Peggy) Swaim

GRANBURY — Monica Annie Holley Swaim, 91, of Granbury, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 in Granbury.
Service: 1:30 p.m., Sunday, at Granbury Baptist Church.
Interment: Holly Hills Memorial Park.
Visitation: 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, at Wiley Funeral Home.
Monica was born in Thurleigh, Bedfordshire, England to Edward Thomas and Annie Elizabeth Whittemore Holley on June 23, 1925. She worked in the local sewing factories and later for the Granbury ISD Sanitation Department. At her death, she was still a British citizen.
Monica Swaim was a devout Baptist and a very brave person. She traveled by ship at the end of WWII with two infants from England to America to join a family she barely knew, and to live in a country where the only person she knew was the man she married, Raymond Swaim. She was almost 20 years old at the time. She loved the USA and told all of her children’s friends how lucky they were to live here, but she could not abandon England because it would not abandon her. Monica was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Swaim; her daughter, Cheryl Swaim Gilmore, her parents; and her sister, Bessie Holley Read.
Monica was the loving mother of 5 children. She leaves behind her daughter, Annita Weidenbach of Keller; 3 sons, R. Harvey Swaim of Chico, Gary Swaim of Granbury, Martin L. Swaim of Bluff Dale; grandsons: Russell H. and Michael J. Pruitt, Eric and Cary Swaim, all of Granbury, Jon Weidenbach of Frisco, Brian Swaim of Chico; granddaughters: Tera Huffman of College Station, Lara Weidenbach Chabault of Atlanta, GA, Charity Jones of Springtown, 22 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren.
