GRANBURY — N. Loretta Miller, age 82, was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, in Granbury.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family also asks that you consider sending a memorial donation to one of the following organizations: Bible Teaching Resources (Tyler); Alzheimer’s Association – North Central Texas Chapter (Fort Worth); Granbury Friends for Animals (Granbury).
Her Life: Loretta was born on April 10, 1933, in Memphis, Tenn., to Harvey Samuel Puryear and L. Viola Hill Puryear. After graduating from high school and completing college courses, she was accepted into American Airlines’ stewardess school and became a flight attendant in the spring of 1955.
Loretta married John Miller on July 5, 1957, in Dallas and together they had three children. She and John were one of 12 couples that helped to establish Faith Bible Church in 1971 (Oak Cliff, and later DeSoto), making wonderful lifelong friends including the beloved “Daffy Dozen” group. Loretta and John were also founding board members of Bible Teaching Resources (formerly Don Anderson Ministries in Tyler). She also belonged to the Methodist Hospital Guild of Dallas, Granbury Christian Women’s Club, and Christian Women’s Club at DeCordova Bend Estates, and often helped with Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and the AWANA kids’ program at Lakeside Baptist Church.
Loretta had a beautiful smile and compassionate heart, and loved spending time with her family and friends. She also greatly enjoyed gardening, dancing, reading, Bible study, arts and crafts, holidays, cooking, volunteering, taking care of her cats, home decorating, shopping, fun adventures and travel.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her baby sister, Mary Louise.
Her Hope: Loretta loved the Lord and placed her faith and trust in Jesus Christ – believing in Him and accepting the free gift of salvation available through His death and resurrection; and it was her desire that all would open their hearts to Jesus’ calling and also personally receive His amazing grace (securing not only the assurance of heaven one day, but also providing a deeper sense of purpose and meaning in life).
The family wishes to extend special thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff at Waterview Memory Care and Interim Hospice for providing such excellent and loving care to Loretta during these latter years.
Survivors: Husband, John Miller; children, Dana Miller, Michael Miller, Alisa Miller Snelson and husband, Mike; sister, Jean Braddock; and numerous other close family members. Loretta will be missed, but we rejoice knowing that she is now in the presence of the Lord – experiencing everlasting love, peace and joy!
