A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 1pm at Valera Cemetery in Coleman County, Texas. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Jene was born October 8, 1922 in St. Louis, Missouri to Lloyd and Mattie Arnett. Fred Sr met Jene in Corpus Christi. He had to get ‘coffee-drunk’ to work up the courage to ask her out. He and his friends would sit her (the pretty one) on a bar stool and wait for guys to hit on her! The rest is history. They were married for 60 years before his death.
She has been a member of First United Methodist Granbury for 30+ years when they settled at Indian Harbor, Granbury, TX. At church, she loved to greet people as they arrived for the service. She could be counted on to always be in her seat on the back row of the auditorium. Always on the back row. That way, people would come to her and greet her.
She and Fred Sr were Shriners. They would host parties on their property in Granbury. Jene loved a good party, especially with the Shriner group. They were both active members and Jene was also an Eastern Star member. She approached this role as herself – always helping, planning, talking and meeting new people.
With Fred Sr being retired Navy, they lived all over – from Rhode Island to Texas meeting life-long friends wherever they were. These friends have remained in her life over the years.
After Fred Sr retired from the Navy, they continued their friendships and would travel all over the US to meet their friends. Later this traveling became RV groups. Jene loved to RV travel, host events, and keep up with life-long friends. Jene had so many memories of travel and good life-long friends.
Never meeting a stranger included animals. From talking to chipmunks on vacation, feeding the buzzards in the far back yard in Granbury, to her recent love for her feral cat – Jene’s heart was big! She will be missed by many from friends to family.
Jene is survived by her son: Freddie W McMeans and wife Robbie Liggett McMeans; grandson: Paden McMeans and wife Larissa and their son Ethan Jarrett McMeans; granddaughters: Lilly Mae McMeans and Autumn Alisa Georgette McMeans; grandson: Cody Myles McMeans and wife Ana.
