Rayford “Ray” Lee Kelly. 81, of Granbury, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019. Service: 2:00 PM, Friday, January 18, 2019, First Presbyterian Church, Granbury, Visitation: 6:00 PM -8:00 PM, Thursday, January 17, 2019, Wiley Funeral Home, Granbury.
Ray was born in Lueders, Jones County, Texas to Leroy and Onita Kelly on September 2, 1937. At a young age the family moved to the Coon Creek Community near Clifton, Texas. He attended the Womack Community School for two years until it closed. He then went to school in Clifton, Texas through 6th grade. The family then moved to Lueders, Texas where Ray graduated from high school in 1956. He married Joyce Stanford on May 28, 1956. He owned and operated the grocery store in Lueders, Texas for several years. In 1962, he moved his wife and three children to Abilene. He attended McMurry College while driving a truck for Mrs. Baird’s at night. He graduated from McMurry College in 1971 with a degree in Business Administration. In 1972, he went to work for Furr’s Supermarket in Amarillo, Texas and Alamorgordo, New Mexico. In 1982, he went to work for Pioneer Gas Company in Amarillo. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Amarillo. Ray and Joyce moved to Granbury, Texas in 1996 where they enjoyed their retirement on the lake.
Preceding Ray in death were his parents Rayford Leroy Kelly and Onita Fitzgerald Kelly; and his wife Joyce Stanford Kelly.
Survivors: He is survived by his daughter, Kerrie Stokes of Amarillo, sons Wesley Ray Kelly and wife Lenette of Amarillo, and Russell Kelly and wife Stacey of Argyle; grandchildren, Brandon Stokes and fiance Shauna Hunter of Amarillo, Justin Stokes of Amarillo, Staci Johnson and husband Jerel of Norman, Okla., Brittany Kelly of Austin, Sydney Kelly of Edmond, Okla., Kyler Cruz and husband Noshua of Grand Prairie, Tyler Kelly of Austin, and Josh McLaughlin of Argyle; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Peyton Stokes of Amarillo and Jack Wesley Johnson of Norman; sisters Glenda “Susie” Petty of Del City, Okla. and Juannelle Miller and husband John of Whitney and brother Ennis Kelly and wife Peggy of San Angelo. He also is survived by his special friend, Betty Killion, and many other family and friends.
