Ricky L. “Rick” Hood

July 11, 1954 – April 6, 2018

Rick Hood, 63, passed in the early morning of April 6, 2018 in the same home he was born and raised with his three children gathered close at his side. After a courageous three and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer, this mighty warrior was called home.

SERVICE: 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Biggers Funeral Chapel. COMMITTAL: 5 p.m. Tuesday at Annetta Cemetery.
VISITATION: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2018 at the funeral home.

Rick was born in Lake Worth, TX on July 11, 1954 to the late Leamon Floyd and Opal Lorene Hood. He graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1973 where he played football and was in the band. Throughout his life, Rick made friends everywhere he went, always welcoming each one with a friendly smile and kind heart. He was a devoted and loving friend and father who enjoyed the simple things in life. Rick adored his children and grandchildren. He spoke of his love for them to every person he met. His devotion was evident in his friendships with fellow employees during his time at Bell Helicopter, where he retired after 35 years.

Dad had a big, huge heart and was always quick to help someone down on their luck. He had a way of spreading joy to those around him, even when they resisted. Dad loved classic cars, good homemade chicken fried steak and listening to music while tinkering with his tools in the garage. He knew how to fix just about anything. His acceptance of anyone, no matter their differences or flaws is what truly made Dad special. He taught us through example, when you can be anything, be kind. Dad was the kindest person we’ve ever known, and we couldn’t be more proud to call him “Dad”, “Papa”, “Poppy” or “Pop”.

Special thanks to The Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders in Fort Worth. You armed Dad with the strength and courage to fight and walked beside him with love and support throughout the entire battle. We will forever be grateful!

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Leamon F. Hood (Dec. 18, 1921- June 1, 2003) and his mother Opal Lorene (Tate) Hood (Feb. 17, 1927 – May 18, 1993).

Rick is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Dyan and Johnny Wood; his former wife, Sheila Dunn; his three loving children, Valerie Bryan, Tanner Hood, and Ethan Hood; his five grandchildren, Hayden Bryan, Karsen Bryan, Hunter Hood, Audrey Hood, and Holten Hood; and his nieces and nephews.
