Robert “Bob” Carvel Hopper

Robert Carvel (Bob) Hopper, 84, of Granbury passed peacefully from this earth September 21, 2018, after a long battle with bone cancer.

Robert was born March 24, 1934, to Dallas Carvel and Bonnie Lee Watkins Hopper in Granbury, Texas. He graduated from Granbury High School in 1950. He attended North Texas University, then transferred to Texas Tech University where he earned a degree in agriculture and acquired numerous life-long friends.

While serving in the army in the 503rd M. P Company, stationed in Germany, Bob developed a passion for foreign travel that lasted as long as he could. He made many trips to Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Years later these army buddies reconnected and began to hold reunions in various parts of the country, thereby encouraging a good deal of domestic travel.

After returning home to ranch with his father in Lampasas, he met and married Jo Ann Ricketson August 22, 1959, in Temple, Texas. A few years later, they moved to Victoria, Texas where Bob began his career with Farmers Home Administration. He moved up the ladder quickly, and three years later he was transferred to the state office in Temple, Texas. He remained there, achieving Chief of Farm Loans before retiring in 1995.

In 2001 he moved back home to Granbury and renewed acquaintances with old school friends, while making new ones. He continued to travel and work on family history with his wife. He enjoyed visiting friends, reading, and watching football.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jo Ann and her brother Larry Ricketson and her sister Betty Mayeur, along with many dear friends and cousins.

Services for Robert Hopper will be Thursday at Wiley’s Funeral Home, 400 Hwy 377 East, Granbury, TX at 1:00pm. Visitation with family will be from 12:00- 1:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Robert C (Bob) and Jo Ann Hopper Scholarship Endowment at Texas Tech University, Box 41081, Lubbock, TX 79409-1081.
