Roger Bucheit

Roger Leonard Bucheit of Granbury, 76, husband of Joan Bucheit, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 7, after a brief battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 20 at Wiley Funeral Home Chapel in Granbury, TX (400 E U.S. Hwy 377, Granbury, TX 76048), with a celebration of his life following the service at the clubhouse of Harbor Lakes (2100 Clubhouse Drive, Granbury, TX 76048). The memorial service will be officiated by Deacon Craig McAlister with St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. An additional funeral service will be held during Memorial Day weekend at the church where he was a member for many years, Holy Trinity Church in Lenexa, KS. Roger will be inurned at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS.

He was born on October 1, 1941, in Festina, Iowa, to Barney and Helen Bucheit. He grew up in Ellinwood and Wichita, Kansas, and spent his career in the residential lighting industry. He found his perfect match in Joan Heerey, and they married in 1964. They raised their three daughters in Lenexa, KS. When grandchildren arrived on the scene, all of them in Texas, Roger and Joan moved to be closer to their nine beloved grandkids.

Roger loved his family and friends, and he truly enriched the lives of the people around him. He was a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, and he enjoyed his life immensely. He was passionate about family, friends, sports, his work, and children. His last four years were spent with wonderful friends on the golf course where he lived.

He never met a stray animal he didn’t help (by bringing them home) and he saw the humor in every situation. He embodied the words of one of his favorite singers: Find out what’s right; and stand your ground.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Helen Bucheit, his brother Robert Buchheit, his sister Madonna Buresh, his brother-in-law Larry Marquez, and his nephew, Michael Gordono.

Roger is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan Heerey Bucheit, his three daughters and their families: Kristin Anderson (Jeff), and children Catherine and Charlie; Kelly Mooney and children Jack, Sarah, and Cap; and Andrea Brown (Rob), and children Sam, Will, Laney, and Cami; sister Esther Gordono (Mike); sister Betty Marquez; and brother Dan Buchheit (Carla); as well as many “favorite” in-laws, nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Roger’s name to Granbury Friends for Animals (2885 Fall Creek Hwy, Granbury, TX 76049) or Shriners Hospitals for Children (Donations: 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607).
