Ronnie Ray Steen, born April 18, 1940 in Matador, Motely County Texas and passed from this world on August 28, 2018 at the age of 78. Ronnie’s surviving family includes his wife of 58 years The Honorable Linda Lou Ray Steen born and raised in Hood County and his son and daughter-in-law Alan and Tandy Steen of Waxahachie Texas and their children Spencer and Jennifer Dryer of Austin. Ronnie also leaves behind a sister and brother-in-law Mickie and Myron Hillman of Greeley Colorado and their four daughters and families: Dean and Belinda Gomez of Mt Pleasant, Iowa, Debbie and James Panter, Vangie and Guy Aragon, and Sherry and Monte Hein all from the Greeley, Colorado area, Tanya and David Ripitoe of Stephenville, Texas and Joey and Dynelle Meador of Archer City, Texas. These families have lots of children and grandchildren across the nation that Ronnie cared for very much.
Ronnie was born and raised in the big ranching country of the Texas Panhandle. He dreamed and lived his life as big and as true to the heritage and values of a way of life gone by. Ronnie worked as a cowboy on many of the West Texas ranches before attending Texas Tech University where he met and fell in love with Linda Lou Ray of Granbury. Together they raised two boys while Ronnie worked for the Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers as a field inspector and also with the Texas Department of Agriculture as a market news specialist.
Ronnie spent his retirement years enjoying the beauty and friendships of both DeCordova Bend and Ruidoso, New Mexico. He was especially proud of his heritage and loved telling of the life he had lived of a cowboy. Ronnie was equally as proud of his family and the accomplishments of both Linda and Alan. Ronnie seldom had a conversation with friends or family that did not include how proud he was of them and what they were doing. Ronnie was as tough and as proud a Texan as anyone could imagine. He passed away peacefully at his home in Granbury with his family at his side just as he had wished.
Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents Ted and Lillian Steen, son J. Scott Steen, and sister June Cunningham.
A memorial service will be held at the Wiley Funeral Home Chapel in Granbury, Saturday September 1, 2018 at 3:00 PM. Gathering: 2:00 PM until service time.
