Sherry Lynne Counts Wafer-Conway, 64, beloved mother and wife, passed away peacefully at home and went to heaven Saturday December 22nd. A celebration of her life will take place at 2 PM, January 12th at Biggers Funeral Chapel.
Sherry was born July 3rd, 1954 in Sacramento, California to Hasmer “Jack” Counts and Joy Dell (Harrington) Counts and grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. Sherry married her soulmate William “Bill” Mack Wafer in 1969, and together they had two sons, James Aaron, who they tragically lost soon after birth, and Nicholas, who was born in 1986. Bill passed away in 1993.
Sherry received her BSN at the University of Texas in Arlington. For many years Sherry worked as a nurse at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth and also for the Texas Health Department and Fort Worth ISD. If there was ever a paragon of service and selflessness, it was her. She loved unconditionally and spread positivity everywhere she went.
In 1995, Sherry met Ian Conway, whom she married the following year.
Sherry founded the Salty Dogs Facebook group, a group dedicated to her love of the ocean which she intended to bring a little joy and beauty into everyone’s day. Her positive outlook, shared in this group, has fostered countless friendships and brightened the lives of over a thousand members.
Sherry spent the last years of her life bravely but quietly fighting an illness. She had to leave us this December, yet not without expressing countlessly how much she loved and appreciated those near to her. She was remarkably selfless until her last days.
She is preceded in death by Bill Wafer, their son, James Aaron Wafer, her father, Hasmer Counts, step-father, James O. Prater, and mother and father-in-law Thelma Wafer and James “Nick” Wafer.
Sherry is survived by her son, Nicholas Wafer; husband, Ian Conway; her mother, Joy Dell Prater, sister, Joy “Dianne” Counts Sewell and her husband Ron; stepmother, Dorothy Counts; Brothers: Stephen, Eric and Chad Counts; sister-in-law Caroline Woodland; nieces: Samsara, Camry, Sydney, Elissa, and Bailey Counts; Callie Phariss; Darby Tadlock; Emily Sewell; Shellie Carnley; Rhonda Klima and Nephews: Randy Clinkscales; Holland Noden, Sean Sewell, numerous friends and extended family, and her beloved dogs Gracie and Georgie.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or any charitable purchases from 4Ocean would be greatly appreciated.
