Shirley Marie Meredith

Shirley Marie Meredith, 83, of Granbury , Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 15, 2020. Shirley was born to parents Mervin Ellsworth Hoag and Bessie Louise Rogers, on February 11, 1937 in Idalia, Colorado.

Shirley graduated from Goodman High School, in Goodman, Missouri in 1955. She met Cecil Ray Sanders that same year and they married August 4, 1955. They moved to Breckenridge, Texas and started their family. Their one daughter, Debra Ann Sanders was born September 1, 1956. Shirley later married Freddy Meredith in 1974.

While in Breckenridge, Shirley worked at several businesses. Pioneer Packing, Kens Chicken and Fish and as a Manager of the Anchor Drive-In and was known as “Momma Shirley” to the kids that hung out there. She retired her working career at Stephens County Courthouse in Breckenridge, Texas.

Shirley enjoyed writing poetry, crocheting, leather working, tanning hides, carpentry, singing and painting. In the last few years she would crochet booties for her granddaughter to take and pass out on her mission trips. Shirley was honored with an art and craft award for a bowl she made out of an armadillo shell and also won 2nd place for her poem she wrote with her grandson Cooper Dodd, “The Travels of the Young and Old” and several other awards for poems she wrote over the years. Shirley was also a member of the Cowboys for Christ Quartet and sang with the group for several years in and around Breckenridge.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Debra Ann Sanders Ketchum and her husband Mike, her beloved grandchildren Jennifer Robin Daehling, husband Danny, Maranda Ray Basey, husband Jake and Cooper JoDel Dodd, wife Alyssa. Her pride and joy, her great-grandchildren, Mason Jo Daehling, Maddox Dann Daehling, Brayden Mark Basey, Mia Grace Daehling, and Branson Ray Basey. Also her step children James Meredith, Tommy Meredith and Elizabeth Meredith, brothers Darrell Hoag, James Adams, John Adams and George Adams, sister Elizabeth Simpson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, mother, sister LaVeta Stewart, brother Byron Hoag and great-grandson Brazos Boe Basey.

The family has entrusted Wiley Funeral Home with her arrangements. Her Memorial is scheduled for Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 2pm at The Ridge Cowboy Church at Lakeside, 108 County Road 221, Breckenridge, Texas. Jim Caraway will officiate the ceremony.
