Sidney was born on February 5, 1943 in Dallas, TX to John Franklin and Sidney Thornell Stagner. She married Joe Bowden on January 2, 1986 in Waco and had 30 wonderful years together. Joe and Sidney made Granbury, Texas their home in 2007 but remained members of First United Methodist Church in Waco.
Sidney was a devout Christian that loved the Lord, her husband, her family and her country. She had many close friends and cherished those relationships.
Sidney was an avid golfer having grown up under the direction of her father, known to all his friends as Frank. Frank was a PGA PRO and instilled the rules and etiquette of golf in her early days of learning the game. She loved being outside especially on the golf course. Sidney was President of several LGA organizations and served on the Board of Directors of the Women’s Texas Golf Association. For several years Sidney and Joe rated golf courses all over North Texas and the Panhandle area. She made countless friends in Wichita Falls, Waco, Granbury, Glen Rose and all over the state in her golfing travels.
Sidney played in the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship in Williamsburg, VA in 1998.
The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful employees of Interim Health Care and Visiting Angels for there loving care.
Sidney was preceded in death by her father, mother, and brother Wayne Franklin Stagner.
Survivors: Husband, Joe Lynwood Bowden; children, Russell Almon and wife Carla, Katherine “Katie” Almon, Laurie Barger and husband Jim, MIchael Berry, Cynthia Dupons; grandchildren, Keegan Dupons and wife Sherry, Mackenzie Dupons, Christian and Alexander Scherf, Jared and Sharon Almon, Molly Barger and Kristen, Allison and Jonathon Berry; great grandchildren, Skyler, Noah, Raylyn and Harley Dupons.
