Steve was born on July 19, 1946 in Fredericksburg, Texas to parents Robert Dee Griffith (Speck) and Doris Opal Griffith. He grew up in Tolar, TX where he graduated from Tolar High School in 1964. He later graduated from Tarleton State University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts. Steve married his high school sweetheart Marie Elaine Griffith in 1970 at Tolar Baptist Church. Steve is survived by his loving wife Marie of 51 years, their son Jud Griffith, his daughter in law Jill Griffith, Grandson Cooper Griffith and Granddaughter Maci Griffith. He is also survived by his childhood friend and Cousin Jimmy Gibbs.
Steve was saved and baptized at the age of 15 and was a lifelong member of Tolar Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and in many other capacities. Steve’s love for our Lord was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a servant who loved as we are called to love others, giving freely of his time and resources throughout his life. He often said, after singing worship music, “If that don’t get your fire started, your wood must be wet.” He and his family spent many summers on mission trips to the Texas border with Tolar Baptist Church building homes for families in need.
Steve began his work in education at Weatherford Junior High School and later transferred to Granbury High School where he worked for 21 years as the automotive teacher until he retired in 2004. He impacted many lives as an educator and was an example of a Godly man for countless students and that impact continues to this day.
Steve also farmed and ranched and had many hobbies; he enjoyed shooting and reloading ammunition, and working on cars. He re-built a 1941 Chevrolet pickup and drove it in the Great Race s while teaching at Granbury High School. This truck is on display in front of Granbury ISD Administration building. In his retirement years Steve developed a great love and talent for woodworking, gifting many with his work.
His family wants to thank Beyond Faith Hospice of Weatherford and Quail Park Memory Care of Granbury for the care and love they bestowed upon our precious husband, father, grandfather and friend in his final days.
