GRANBURY — Sybil Corrine Burton Turney, 93, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015.
Funeral: A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at Southside Baptist Church. Interment: 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at Temple Cemetery in Temple, Okla. Visitation: Celebrate Sybil’s life with her family at Wiley Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2015.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southside Baptist Church or charity of choice.
Sybil was born on May 6, 1921, in Cotton County, Okla. She was the fourth child of Charlie and Emma Burton’s six children. Sybil became the bride of Clyde Turney, also of Oklahoma, on Sept. 24, 1938. They made Temple, Okla. their home for twelve years as Clyde worked as a farmer and Sybil a homemaker. In this time, they were blessed with four children. In 1950, Sybil and her family moved to Fort Worth, Texss where she and her husband worked for General Dynamics until their retirements. Sybil enjoyed working, being a homemaker, mother and grandmother.
Sybil and her husband were members of the Circle 8 Square Dancing Club for over 30 years. As their family grew and grandchildren came, they also delighted in spending vacations and family time at their property on Bridgeport Lake where everyone was entertained with swimming, skiing, cookouts and yearly square dance parties as young and old alike shared in fellowship. After retirement, Sybil and Clyde loved traveling in their RV so much that they had regular stops they made at various campsites every year and became a members of the LMRA Camping Club.
Sybil and Clyde were former members of Eastridge Baptist Church in Haltom City. Eventually they moved to Granbury in 2004, to be closer to family and where they became active members of the Southside Baptist Church. Sybil was dearly loved by her four children, nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren. In her later years, Sybil looked forward to family gatherings and reunions where you would always find a game of Shanghai Rummy being played, and Sybil was notorious for taking great pride in usually winning. Sybil, lovingly known as grandmommie to her family, will be missed, but she leaves them with cherished memories of a strong, independent and caring woman. Sybil was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Turney, one sister and four brothers.
Survivors: Children, Essie Lucas of Granbury, Aliene “Sissie” Allen and husband, Donnie, of Hooks, Texas, Charles Turney and wife, Gail, of Granbury, Carl Ray Turney and friend Carla Edwards, of Weatherford; grandchildren, Roger Lucas and wife, Kris, of Clearmont, Fla., Ronnie Lucas and wife, Leslie, of Palmyer, Va., Robert Lucas and friend, Rachel, of Titusville, Fla., Tami Whitington and husband, Mitchell, of Jefferson, Texas, Christi Lundby and husband, David, of Marble Falls, Texas, Carl Wayne Turney and wife, Mildred, of Granbury, Felesha Snider and friend, Dave Smith, of Evergreen, Colo., Larry Allen & wife, Beth, of Hooks, Texas, Sandy Nall and husband, Jimmy, of Texarkana, Ark.; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and long time friends.
