Thomas Elwyn Bedichek, beloved father and grandfather, died at the age of 80 on August 25, 2021.
Tom’s Celebration of Life: 10:00 am, Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Biggers Funeral Home, Lake Worth, Texas. Mr. James Vinzant will officiate.
Tom was born on June 30, 1941, in Abilene Texas to Elwyn Anderson and Ivy Lorena Bedichek; the eldest of four. He graduated from Abilene Christian University with a degree in Biblical Greek in 1963. Shortly thereafter, he began his work as a preacher and evangelist; continuing this work until the day he died. Tom obtained a Master’s Degree in Theology in 2003. In 2004, he obtained his Doctorate of Theology. On August 2, 1963 he married his college sweetheart, Jan. Three years later they welcomed their first child Michael. Four additional children were welcomed by Tom and Jan: Gordon, Doug, Scott and Amy.
Tom was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Ask anyone who knew Tom, and they would tell you how he spoke endlessly about his children and grandchildren. His ten grandchildren were the most important thing in his life. Attending their special events, cheering them on from the sidelines and playing endless card games with them were a few of his favorite activities. Tom loved people and never met a stranger. He made it a point to speak to each and every person he encountered. His encouragement and cheerful manner will be sorely missed.
Tom was a longtime member of the Lions Club. He held every office in the Lions Club at one time or another. His devotion to public service was extraordinary.
Tom’s true passion was preaching, and his lifelong work made a difference for the Kingdom of God. Tom led churches in Guymon, OK; Liberal, KS; Wichita, KS; Tulsa, OK; Oklahoma City, OK; Lafayette, LA; Waco, TX; Justin, TX and Denton, TX. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he met.
Tom is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jan; their five children and ten grandchildren; as well as two younger brothers and a younger sister.
