Travis Smith of Fort Worth passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021. Graveside service: 2:00 PM, Friday, January 7, 2022, Acton Cemetery, Viewing: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Thursday, January 6, 2022, Wiley Funeral Home, Granbury.
Travis was born on June 10, 1931 in Lafayette, Louisiana to Wilburn and Inez Smith. Upon graduating high school Travis served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After his service, he received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Southwestern Louisiana Institute of Liberal and Technical Learning (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and worked for General Dynamics for over 23 years. Never one to retire, he then earned his Ranch Management certification from Texas Christian University and began ranching in Granbury.
Travis married Patricia Gray on October 7, 1961 in Granbury, Texas. They were happily married for over 60 years. They split their time between Fort Worth and Granbury from 1980 until 2019, retreating to Granbury as much as possible. Family was dear to him, and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Travis was a quiet man with a gentle soul who loved children. He volunteered in the nursery at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth, taking care of their newest and smallest members. His endearment to the children of his church, where he was a member for over 40 years, was evident to all who knew him and a God-given gift. When he was not volunteering at church, you could find Travis on his tractor, driving his pickup or his UTV around his ranch and taking care of his cattle, horses and donkeys. He also had a true love for rescuing dogs who needed a caring home.
Travis is survived by his wife Patricia, their sons Mark (Cindy), Steven (Marion), and Michael (Kathleen), and his six grandchildren: Christopher, Emily, Rebecca, Aaron (Cathleen), Cooper, and Maggie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you to make a donation in Travis’ name to Second Chance Farm https://www.secondchancefarmgranbury.org/, P.O. Box 1085, Granbury, TX, 76048 or Children’s Ministry at Broadway Baptist https://www.broadwaybc.org/, 305 W Broadway Ave, Fort Worth, TX, 76104
