Virgil L. “Leon” Heath, 83, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in Glen Rose, Texas. Graveside service: 2:00 PM, Monday, March 20, 2017, Sparkman Hillcrest Cemetery, Dallas, Texas, Visitation: 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Sunday, March 19, 2017, Wiley Funeral Home, Glen Rose, Texas.
Leon was born on September 16, 1933 in Dallas, Texas to the late Virgil and Velma (Colley) Heath. He served in the US Army and soon after married Linda James on September 12, 1957. Leon was an electrical service coordinator for Dallas Power and Light now, TXU Electric. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Heath in 2016.
Leon and Linda were charter members of St. Mark’s Methodist Church in Mesquite, TX in 1965. Leon served on the leadership committee and was a Bible teacher from 1965 – 2005. He was raised in a Christian home and gave his life to the Lord, Jesus Christ at a young age. From that time on he spent his life in service to the Lord. He had a deep desire for the Written Word and a passion to teach it, telling everyone about Jesus Christ. He had a tender heart for the lost and the hurting. He volunteered feeding the hungry and on Saturday mornings and he took clothing to the homeless in downtown Dallas. Leon’s words of wisdom were “You may be the only Jesus that someone see’s…be His Light to a darkened world so others can find their way to Him”. These words became Leon’s Legacy. Leon lost his struggle with Diabetes and Dementia after a long & hard battle, but he is FREE now and he is with the Lord! Leon was a beloved husband, doting father, grandfather and loyal friend and he will be greatly missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
Leon is survived by his wife of 59 years: Linda; daughters, Debbie Allen and husband, Gaylon, Terre Workman and husband, James; sons, Mike Heath, Danny Heath and wife, Jennifer; brothers, Don Heath and wife, Carol, Gene Heath; sister-in-law, Pat Heath; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
