GRANBURY — W. P. “Wink” Allmand, 94, passed from this life on Saturday, October 15, 2016.
Graveside service: 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2016, Acton Cemetery.
Wink was born November 14, 1921 in Magnolia, Mississippi, the tenth of 11 children of Eugene Prentiss and Ada Burkhalter Allmand.
Wink attended school and played football at Brookhaven High School and Copiah Lincoln College until interrupted by World War II. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of 20, and saw combat on Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan and Taiwan.
Returning home, he met the love of his life, Ella Ratcliff. They were married on May 26, 1945. They celebrated 70 years of a happy marriage before Ella passed away in July 2015.
Wink went to work for Halliburton Company in 1947, and worked in Mississippi, Texas and Oklahoma until retiring to the golf course in DeCordova in 1984. Wink and Ella made good friends and toured the world with them. They were dedicated to travel, golf, friends, their church, and doting on grandchildren and great grandchildren for 34 years.
Wink is survived by sons Steve and wife Candy, David and wife Ina, 4 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
