GRANBURY — Weldon C. “Clive” Sloan was born to Julius Lafayette Sloan and Annie Marian Speaks Sloan in Louann Arkansas on April 24, 1926 and passed away March 28, 2015.
Memorial service: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 2, 2015, at First Christian Church. Burial: 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the Gorman Cemetery in Gorman, Texas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wed., Apr. 1, 2015, at Wiley Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to First Christian Church Memorial Fund, Granbury TX, Community Hospice of Texas, Cleburne or The National WWII Museum (www.nationalww2museum.org.)
Clive graduated high school at Monument New Mexico and achieved a degree in mechanical engineering at Texas A&M University in 1949. His college years included two years service in the US Navy.
While residing in Hurst Texas, Clive’s career spanned 36 years at Bell Helicopter progressing to Program Manager and Sr. Vice President positions within the company. He had a life long passion for all things flight related and greatly appreciated the friends and associates that pursued that passion with him.
He was a member of the Richland Hills Christian Church and upon moving to Granbury transferred membership to the First Christian Church of Granbury. In addition to being a choir member Clive served on the Boards of both churches.
Upon leaving Bell Helicopter Clive and Margaret lived in Pecan Plantation where they enjoyed retirement, family, friends and travel.
Clive was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Julius Lafayette Sloan Jr., an airman lost in the battle of Leyte Gulf in WWII.
Survivors: Surviving immediate family members include Margaret Jackson Sloan (wife of 65 years), Suzan Turner and Tom McCarran, Bruce and Joni Sloan and grand children (Lindsey Turner, Grant Turner, Stuart Sloan and Theresa Turner Joiner).
