William “Bill,” “Billy” Henry Wedge, 85, passed peacefully Saturday, August 1, 2015, at a local hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Biggers Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
William was born June 20, 1930, in Texas City to Emma Dell and William Henry Wedge Sr. He married Karen Evonne Howard August 19, 1950, and they lived in Texas City where they began their family. The Wedges moved to Fort Worth in 1971. He survived the loss of his beloved Karen after 50 years of marriage.
William enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952 and proudly served on the USS Valley Forge until being honorably discharged in 1956.
William’s career as a heavy equipment operator began at Union Carbide on the Gulf Coast followed by several years constructing landmark buildings in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and finally teaching his trade at Tarrant Community College. He retired in 1981 as a member of IUOE Local Union 178.
In the years following, William’s focus was family and faith, actively caring for and mentoring his grandsons, Christopher, Zachary and Kade, while devoting his life to Christ and his teachings at Wesley Methodist Church in White Settlement.
William remarried in 2008 to Martha Jean Harmon and they were never apart until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Wedge of Fort Worth; children, Rodney Wedge and wife, Tonya, of Atlanta, Georgia, Leslie Wedge of Watauga and Kelsey Rolfing and husband, Cary, of Azle; stepsons, Kevin, Kent, Dennis and Tim Swearingen and their families; grandchildren, Christopher Pattillo, Zachary Rolfing and wife, Chazleigh, and Kade Rolfing; sister-in-law, Imogene Tadsen.
