William Slocum

GRANBURY — William H. “Bill” Slocum, 79, passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, in Granbury.
Funeral: Celebration of Life service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at Acton United Methodist Church. Burial: Private entombment will be held at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas. Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Acton United Methodist Church.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Acton United Methodist Church or Rancho Brazos Construction Fund.
Bill was born Jan. 2, 1934, in Hurdland, Mo., to C.H. and Dorothy Miller Slocum. He married Norma Gooch, June 12, 1955, in Hurdland, Mo. He graduated from Hurdland High School; Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Mo.; Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, Rolla, Mo.; and Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 until 1958 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
Bill retired in 1993 from Ling-Temco Vought (now Lockheed-Martin) with 30 years service as an electrical engineer. He had an interesting career serving with NASA and the space program in the first launch to the moon. Bill and Norma lived in Arlington for 30 years where they raised their two daughters. They retired to Granbury in 1997 where they spent their time enjoying incredible friends, traveling, golfing, RVing, keeping up with baseball and enjoying their 3 granddaughters.
Bill was a member of Acton United Methodist Church. He never met a stranger, always had a story or a joke to share and enjoyed listening to music. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter in April 1966 and his parents.
Survivors: Wife of 58 years, Norma Slocum of Granbury; daughters, Stacey Mendoza and husband, Joe, of Arlington, Cindy Licalsi and husband, Robert, of Keller; granddaughters, Jamie Mendoza, Ryan Licalsi, Shea Licalsi; sister, Shermaine Riggins and husband, Bill, of Marshall, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
