William Vester Carpenter was born in Bruce, Mississippi on October 17th, 1932, and went to be with the Lord on May 5, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Sherrilyn Carpenter, his sister Jane Walker, his children, Billy Carpenter (Marcia), Tommy Carpenter (Jennifer), Cindy Carpenter (John), Trudie Carpenter, Tracie (Randy) Shearin and Melanie (Daniel) Halterman), Brett Quillin (Shelena) and Brad Quillin, as well as 17 Grandchildren, and 24 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was in the Army from 1950 to 1953 and then served in the Air Force until December 1966. He served a total of 16 yrs. He was ordained in the ministry and served in several churches while in the military. His first church as a civilian pastor was Blue Lake Baptist church in Crowder, Mississippi. He loved serving his country and loved serving the Lord even more.
He received the soldiers medal while in the service for saving multiple children out of a fire in a children’s home. He was blessed while serving in that children’s home, to see one of the young men assigned to him receive salvation, leave that home, and go into the ministry. He was influential in several young men making the decision to go into the ministry. He loved witnessing whether behind the pulpit or on the streets.
He was also a family man in every way one can be, with his love, understanding, guidance, and much much patience. His desire was always for every one of his children to know and serve the Lord. That desire filtered down to the Grandchildren and beyond. He wanted to leave that kind of legacy. Always with a big smile and a great sense of humor, and a super positive attitude, he went through life following the leading of the Lord and looking forward to the day he would be with him forever.
