GRANBURY — Willie Crossland died peacefully at the age of 85 on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at his home in Granbury, Texas.
Memorial service: 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Granbury First Baptist Church. Burial: Private family services will be held. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wiley Funeral Home.

Willie was born Apr. 6, 1929, in Wellington, Texas. He attended Brownwood High School, graduating in 1948 and then attended Daniel Baker College in Brownwood. Willie served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 – 1954. He then completed his teaching degree at Southwest Texas State University. Later, while living and coaching in Hale Center, Texas, he received his Master’s Degree from Texas Tech University. Willie and Wanda moved to Granbury in 1961 where he became junior high school coach and principal. He then moved to the role of high school principal in 1964, serving in that role until 1976, then becoming an elementary principal until his retirement from Granbury ISD in 1986. In his retirement, Willie helped create the Granbury 911 system and worked many years at Wiley Funeral Home. Over the years, Willie and Wanda have received numerous awards for their work in Granbury and Hood County.
Survivors: His wife of 63 years, Wanda; daughter, Deborah Crossland of Georgetown, Texas; son, Bert Crossland of West Dundee, Ill.; granddaughters, Brooke Hyden and husband, Bill, Beth Martin and husband, Dan; two great granddaughters, Livia Kate and Chelsea; niece, Rena Wagner and husband, Augie, of Florida.
