GLEN ROSE — Yvonne Bohannan Cotton, 82, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014, after a lengthy illness.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Wiley Funeral Home. Burial: Squaw Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Cotton was born Nov. 12, 1931, in Somervell County. She married James Cotton, Mar. 24, 1962. She was a graduate of Glen Rose High School and entered Texas Women’s University in Denton where she majored in physical education. She completed two years of higher education and returned to Glen Rose and served as a receptionist and switchboard operator at the local telephone company. After several years of employment, she moved to Fort Worth and was employed in a similar capacity at All Saints Hospital. In a few years she again returned to Glen Rose and was employed as a nurse assistant at the local hospital. In 1959, she moved to Denton and was employed at the local hospital. While residing in Denton, she met and married her life long husband, Don, and took on the roll of caregiver to his four children, Danny, Lisa, James and Billy Don. In 1970, she and Don moved to Louisville, Kentucky as a result of Don’s transfer by Ford Motor Co. They remained in Louisville for 12 years and upon Don’s retirement, they returned to Glen Rose. After Yvonne returned to her home town, she became a caregiver to her former first grade teacher, Neville Milam Turner, and seved in that position until Mrs. Turner’s death. She was a member of Glen Rose First Baptist Church for over 30 years and was a founding member of the Somervell County genealogy society. Preceding her in death were her parents, Conroe and Grace Bohannan.
Survivors: Husband of 52 years, Don Cotton of Glen Rose; brother, C.D. Bohannan and wife, Sandy, of Cedar Hill; sister, Carolyn Bilhartz and husband, Kenneth, and their daughter, Meredith, of San Antonio; her loving and devoted friend, Kathleen Hensley.
The family is very appreciative of the devotion and care Kathleen provided to her friend. Family would also like to thank Diane Young for her help and devotion.
