Jerry Don Hodges, 68, of Granbury, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018. Memorial service: 3:30 PM, Thursday, November 29, 2018, First United Methodist Church, Granbury, Gathering: 2:30 PM until service time, Thursday, First United Methodist Church, Granbury. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hood County Meals on Wheels.
Jerry was born on October 30, 1950 in Comanche, Texas to Gaston and Betty Hodges. He never met a stranger and had the uncanny ability to see the good in all people and situations.
Jerry graduated from Granbury High School in 1969, where he was a three year Letterman in football, basketball, and track. He played on the 1966 State Finalist Pirate Football Team. He was an All-District Quarterback in 1968, All-District Safety in 1968, All-District Basketball in 1968 and 1969, and All-West Texas Academic Basketball in 1969. Jerry went on and played football for two years at The University of Texas at Arlington, where he graduated in 1975.
Jerry was active in youth groups in Granbury and served on the Board of Directors and coached for the Granbury Youth Baseball Association for five years. He was active in the building and construction of the present association baseball field’s complex and coached little dribblers basketball for seven years. Jerry served on the board and was the president of the Granbury Pirate Athletic Booster club for almost ten years.
Jerry was employed at First National Bank of Granbury as Vice President and Manager of the HWY 144 Bank since 1987. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry is survived by his wife: Susan Hodges, children: Gregory Don Hodges and wife Lora, Shelby Colette Holland and husband Chase, and James Drew Hodges, grandchildren: Isabel Hodges, Abigail Holland, and Henry Holland, brothers: James Glen Hodges and wife Sulin, and Barry Brent Hodges and wife Debbie, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
