Marian McLure Chambers of DeCordova Bend Estates in Granbury, Texas, passed away suddenly on January 22, 2021. She was 90 years old.

Marian was born on August 29, 1930 to Adaline Bowden and Everett Blair McLure in Berkley, California. Her love for life and great interest in people led Marian to pursue a B.S. degree in Nursing from California State, followed by a 10-year career as an R.N. in San Francisco. As a wife and mother, she built a home for her family, providing support and love for her husband, Ernie, and six children.

A lifelong love for dogs and a skill at gardening were natural extensions of her love and care for all living things. Indeed, her home always seemed to be a welcome retreat from the busy, impersonal and uncaring world.

To those outside her family, Marian is best remembered as a prolific master quilter and knitter. Blue Ribbons from the State Fair commemorate her knitting skills. But her legacy is the many stories of lives changed by her meticulous handwork. Marian’s compassion for others became concrete reality as dozens of quilts, socks and scarfs warmed friends and strangers alike throughout North Texas & beyond. And as the years went by, Marian’s great interest in people combined with her outgoing, infectious spirit provided the impetus to help start the Blotto Babes, an online quilting community. She also was a member of the Granbury Quilting Guild and the Granbury Knitting Guild.

Marian is survived by three children, Diana Blair Van Wyck Yellowwings, Kathryn Van Wyck Fullmer, and Douglas Van Wyck, as well as three step-children, Gregory Chambers, Susan Terschuren, and David Chambers.  At the time of her passing, Marian also had 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest H. Chambers and by her son, William Van Wyck.

As a celebration of Marian’s life and love for all things, her final request was that those who wish to honor her please send donations to Animal Rescue in Acton, Texas, or to the Hood County Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels program.

A memorial and celebration of her life will be held at Wiley’s Funeral Home in Granbury on March 13, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
