Joseph “Joe” Benjamin Champion
GRANBURY — Joseph “Joe” Benjamin Champion, 98, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 in Granbury. Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Holly Hills Mausoleum Chapel. Burial: Holly Hills Memorial Park. Memorials: Happy Hill Farm.
Joe was born Oct. 15, 1914 in Dawson to Benjamin Franklin and Aytchie Lydia Barnett Champion. He married Flora Wiles June 9, 1940 in Midlothian. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 during World War II as Chief Petty Officer. Joe spent 40 years in the education field as football coach and teacher with 27 of those years as junior high school principal. He retired in 1978.
Survivors: Wife, Flora Champion; sons, Joe Champion and wife, Carol and John Champion, M.D. and wife, Nancy; grandchildren, Joe and Stacy Champion, Jerian and Guy Cook, Christopher and Rachel Champion and Sarah Champion; great-grandchildren, Caitlin Hatcher, Ashley Hatcher, Trevor Cook and Travis Cook.
