Our sweet, loving, and beloved Mother, Janice Marie Penneman, was born in Bogalusa, LA, on April 13, 1933, to Henry E. and Hester L. Nielson. She passed from this life on Monday, March 6, 2023, at nearly 90 years old, from a sudden illness.
Visitation: 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Biggers Funeral Home, 6100 Azle Avenue, Lake Worth, Texas 76135.
The family respectfully request no flowers, please.
Her parents settled in San Diego, CA, during World War II. She attended Kearny High School and graduated in 1951. She enjoyed keeping up with the activities of her fellow Kearny High Komets through their newsletter.
Robert and Janice had five children born in San Diego, one daughter and four sons. In July of 1964, the family pulled up roots and moved to Fort Worth, TX, for a job transfer to the Convair aircraft plant (later General Dynamics and now Lockheed Martin). She finally got her dream home; two-story with four bedrooms and a two-car garage!
Janice was very active mother, involved in all her children’s school PTA parties, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She and Robert took their wild brood on many an adventure, even to the Bahamas for snorkeling.
After her children were grown, there was much time spent watching grandchildren and traveling. She and Bob traveled as close as Port Aransas and as far as Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean and New England. She worked at Dillard’s warehouse for several years, then with Lifetouch school photographers in Arlington, TX, where she was trained by her daughter to take her place shipping and printing school flyers.
Janice spent the last five years of her life in an apartment at The Vantage Assisted Living complex in the Cityview area of southwest Fort Worth. She loved having a comfortable home with her close friends and staff at the Vantage. She will be sorely missed by many there, as they have expressed.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert B. Penneman, in 2014. They met at Convair in San Diego, where she was riveting the fuselages of planes in the early 1950’s. Robert had served in the Army in the Philippines. She will join him once again at the Dallas – Fort Worth National Cemetery on the shores of Mountain Creek Lake near Grand Prairie, TX in a private service on her 90th birthday, April 13, 2023. Mom and Dad are resting peacefully from their pain and sufferings; waiting patiently in hope for their names to be called on that roll up yonder, then on Resurrection Day to be ever with the Lord, family, and friends whose names are written on the Lamb’s Book of Life.
