Yvonne received her bachelor’s degree from North Texas State University and began her teaching career at Wayside Middle School in Saginaw. She married her husband of 53 years, Bill, in 1962 and shared a lifetime of friends, travel, and family before his passing in 2016.
When her son Todd was born, Yvonne paused her career in teaching to care for him and volunteer endless hours with the Saginaw Extension Homemakers, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD PTA, Boswell High School Athletic Boosters, and as a founding sponsor of the Saginaw 4-H Club.
After Bill’s retirement, Yvonne returned to the workforce as the Director of the John Ed Keeter Saginaw Public Library, where she contributed to her community’s love of reading until her own retirement in 2010. Her subsequent years were spent experiencing travel around the world and participating in her two grandsons’ many activities. Yvonne and Bill were lifelong members of the Saginaw United Methodist Church, and Yvonne enjoyed many hours of quilting and fellowship there.
Yvonne and Bill were an instrumental and loving presence in the lives of their grandsons, providing hours of babysitting, coke breaks, and parent-unapproved adventures.
Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mary Lou Newton, sister Sandra Newton Carter, and husband William “Bill” Flippo.
She is survived by her son, Todd and wife, Jennifer who loved her unwaveringly; the two lights in her life, grandsons, Cameron and Travis Flippo; her sister, Shirley Newton Martin; along with many cousins and friends.
Her last years were enhanced by the devoted care of her two “girls”, Jessica Aviles and Melissa Martinez, to whom her family is forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to honor Yvonne through donations to Community Link Mission in Saginaw, Texas.
