Benny Keith Rodgers

Benny Keith Rodgers of Azle, Texas went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Monday, October 4, 2021 at 5:27 a.m. at the age of 74.

Service:  2 p.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2021 Ash Creek Baptist Church

Interment:  Ash Creek Cemetery

Visitation:  6 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 11, 2021 at Ash Creek Baptist Church

He was born in Ranger, Texas on October 16, 1946, to Pete and Dealva Rodgers.  He was married to Marilyn Jean Rodgers on June 9, 1967 and they enjoyed 54 years together.

Benny was a graduate of Olden High School and served in the US Air Force for four years.  He graduated from Howard Payne University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Education with a Minor in Music and continued to Southwestern Theological Seminary for two years, studying music.

He grew up in a family who gathered around the piano and sang hymns and gospel songs.  This is where he learned to love music.  Having been blessed with a beautiful voice and a love for music, the Lord called him into the music ministry where he served in several churches throughout Texas for over 40 years.

After retiring in 2008 from Lockheed Martin, Benny loved singing in the choir at Ash Creek Baptist Church.  He was multi-talented in that he could repair anything around the house.  He also enjoyed repairing cars and restoring old ones in his shop out back with his sons.  One of his pastimes was watching old movies, particularly old westerns.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Raymond (Pete) and Dealva Marie Rodgers; brothers, Milton Neil Rodgers and William Alvis (Al) Rodgers; sister, Charlene Euvonne Thackerson; brother-in-law, James Albert Thackerson; wife of brother-in-law, Jeannie Coleen Mills; father-in-law, Rev. Judson Grady Mills; mother-in-law, Marjorie Iva Mills; great niece, Abigail Grace Collis; nephew, Jared Alan Grimes.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Jean Rodgers of Azle; their children, Jimmy Rodgers of Arlington, John Mark Rodgers of Lake Worth; grandson, Kason Rodgers of Lake Worth; brother, Ray Rodgers of Eastland and his wife, Mickey; sister-in-law, Janie Rodgers of Abilene; sister-in-law, Sharon Cloud of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Sandy Grimes and her husband, Richard of Plano; sister-in-law, Judy Summers and her husband, Grady of Hutto; brother-in-law, Michael Mills of Weatherford.
