Billie Sol Estes passed peacefully from this world on May 14, 2013, at his home in DeCordova Bend Country Club Estates in Granbury, Texas. He was 88 years old. Mr. Estes was born on January 10, 1925, in the Texas Panhandle town of Alanreed. He was the son of Callahan County pioneers, John L. Estes and Lillian. He was one of six children and grew up on the Estes farm in Clyde, Texas. He served in the Merchant Marines and was present on DDay in WWII.
He will be remembered as a man with great power, life and challenges. He was named the outstanding 4H member in the United States, one of the Five Outstanding Young Men of Texas and one of The 10 Outstanding Men in the United States.
He married Patsy Howe in 1945 in Clyde, Texas. They were the parents of Pamela Padget, January Harman, Cathy Dawn Stevens, Billie Sol Estes, Jr. and Joy Lovell. He married Dorris Brookover in 2003.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Patsy Estes, his parents, his brothers Bob Estes and Dr. John Estes, Jr., and sister Joan Lastovica and her husband Alfred, and Trinity Revett, great grandchild.
He is survived by Dorris Estes, of Granbury, his wife of 10 years, his brother Word Estes and wife Waunita and sister Jean Holcomb and husband Kenneth of Clyde. He is also survived by his son, Billie Sol Estes, Jr., and wife Suzanne of Houston, his daughters, Pamela and husband, Dr. Larry Padget and Joy and husband Dennis Lovell of Granbury, January Harman and Dr. Barlow Smith of Marble Falls and Cathy Dawn Stevens of Cedar Park. His grandchildren are Tricia Chupka, Amy Revett, Shane, Clay and Cole Stevens of Austin. Star Bright Laird of Horse Shoe Bay, Lilly Lovell of Fort Worth, Benjamin Sol Estes and Jeremy Estes of Houston, Jacob Estes and James Estes of Austin. His great grandchildren are Cade and Caleb Chupka of Austin, Emma and Avery Grace Revett of Granbury, Rylan, Barret, Benton and Harrison Stevens of Austin, Layla Estes of Houston and Copper Laird of Horse Shoe Bay.
The pallbearers will be Dennis Lovell, Word Estes, Billie Sol Estes, Jr., Alfred Lastovica, Jr., Dr. John L. Estes, III, Harper Estes and Dr. Larry Padget. Honorary pallbearers will be, Kevin Revett, Art Chupka, Chris Laird, Clay, Shane and Cole Stevens, Jeremy, James, Jacob, Ben, Bryan Estes.
