Bobby John Whitlock, age 88, left this world peacefully on Feb 12, 2023, in Granbury, Texas. He was born on October 28, 1934, to the late Robert and Ruth Lisle Whitlock of Ropesville, Texas. He was one of six siblings. Bobby John joined the United States Air Force on Feb 1, 1954, and retired Honorably as a Master Sergeant on Jan 31, 1974. He was a Vietnam War veteran, based out of Saigon, Vietnam serving as a C-130 Flight Engineer. He flew 55 missions throughout Vietnam delivering supplies to the servicemembers on the front lines. For his actions, he was prestigiously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 11 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Presidential Unit Citation. Upon retiring from Active Duty, Bobby John continued his service to his country as a Civil Servant working for the Air Force Audit Agency.
Bobby John was an avid sports fan and loved his Atlanta Braves baseball and Dallas Cowboys football. He rarely missed a game! He was a private pilot and enjoyed traveling the world. Bobby John was immensely proud of his family’s military service with over 100 years of combined Air Force service. His achievements were long, his patriotism was steadfast and his commitment to those around him was unwavering. He will always be remembered as a kind soul with great love for his family and a heart of gold.
He is survived by his brother Tommy Dave Whitlock, and sister Betty Jane Lamb, both of Granbury, Texas. He is also survived by four children, Debbie Whitesell, Cathy Hall, Michael Whitlock, and Joanne Whitlock, grandchildren, Amanda Miller, Andrea Shaw, Ashley Daniels, Christopher Whitesell, Brianna Whitesell, Mariah Whitesell, Sarah Whetstine, Donald Whetstine, Carson Hall, Madison Hall, Ren Whitlock, Reimi Whitlock, great-grandchildren Acelynn Crichley, Jaxon Crichley, Evalynn Westfall, Ryder Westfall along with countless nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Bobby John was preceded in death by his loving wife Juana, his parents Robert and Ruth; his siblings Louise Hart, Jackie Nell Goad, and Don Whitlock; and his daughters, Lori Whetstine and Cindy Daniels.
