Charles Oliver “Charlie” Burkins, of Glen Rose, Tx. went to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 18, 2022. The funeral service will be held at Wiley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Glen Rose, Tx., Tuesday, October 25, 2022. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m. Followed by graveside service at Squaw Creek Cemetery, Glen Rose, Tx.
Charlie was born in Havre de Grace, Md. on October 4, 1942, to Joseph and Miriam Burkins.
Charlie lived a life of service. He proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard, he worked for the Arlington Fire Dept for 29 years and retired in 1999 as a Battalion Chief. He had such a close bond with his fellow firefighters. He also served Meals on Wheels, worked as an ambulance EMT for Lake Granbury Hospital, helped build homes for Habitat for Humanity, and worked nuclear outages building scaffolds. Charlie was also a Master Carpenter.
Charlie greatly loved the Lord, his wife Lynn of 40 years, 4 kids, 7 grands, and 1 great grand. If Lynn needed anything, he would move heaven and earth to see she got it. They were the loves of each other’s lives.
Charlie never met a stranger and was loved by all. He was kind, funny, loved to joke around, and was just a genuinely happy person. Probably what made him so happy was his love of Blue Bell ice cream and Jellybeans! His additional interests were reading, hunting, fishing, and running. He ran races for charity and completed 3 marathons: Fort Worth Cowtown, Dallas White Rock, and Houston Tenco.
Charlie is survived by his wife Lynn; children: Lori Schroeder, Dean Armstrong, Lora Hammond, and Mandy Gosdin; grandchildren: Colton Schroeder, Sara Repsher, Payton Sanchez, Brayden Crisler, Jessi Schroeder, Brenna Bulat, and Gabriel Gosdin; and great-granddaughter Ransom Repsher.
