LAKE WORTH: Curtis Neil McKay, Jr, age 81, passed away January 2, 2019 at a Fort Worth hospital after a brief illness.

Curtis Neil McKay, Jr was born on May 17, 1937, in Hammond, Indiana, to Mettie Lucille Rainbolt and Curtis Neil McKay and in 1946 the family moved to River Oaks, Texas. He was a graduate of Fort Worth Technical High School and in 1957 he married his high school sweetheart, Lee Voorhees. Curtis worked as a maintenance mechanic in the plastics molding industry for 44 years before retiring in 2000.
In 1961 Curtis, his wife, Lee, and three children moved to Lake Worth, Texas. Having come from a background of volunteer service with the River Oaks Fire Department he immediately joined the Lake Worth Volunteer Fire Department. As a volunteer fireman he served in various capacities for over 30 years, 18 of those years as Fire Chief.
Curtis was elected as a City of Lake Worth Councilman in 1972 and actively served the community in that position for 37 years. He along with his wife Lee were also very active with a group that worked diligently to create the Lake Worth Historical Society and subsequently the Lake Worth Museum.
Curtis is preceded in death by his parents Curtis and Lucille McKay, and siblings Jeffrey McKay and Judy Fyles.
He is survived by Lee, his wife of 61 years, his sister Sharon Beall (Raymond), his children Michele Knock (Patrick), Michael McKay (Laurie), Mark McKay (Nancy), grandchildren Robert Knock (Jennifer), Jeffrey McKay, Jennifer Dunn (Travis), Janet Mikeska (Mark), Kristen McKay and four great grandchildren.
