God had a Plan for your life & I am so Thankful He allowed our paths to cross all those years ago.....1975. You received your first big promotion to our Downtown Tulsa JC Penney Store. I was a young Merchandiser & Thank You Lord for sending Doug Long my way! The average age for JCP Associates at our store was about 55 ~ so you see how welcome you were to liven things up!! To my benefit, your desk was not next to me, but in front of me. Everytime I looked up ~ there was your grin & goodness knows what thought, joke or reference was going to come out of your mouth!! My life was enriched knowing you & sharing our joys & sorrows through our 45 year friendship. I was there the first day you came to downtown Penneys, I was there the day you transferred to Bartlesville, Ok. You invited me to come meet your “team” there & again you invited me to come to Seminole, Ok & on to Muskogee, Ok when you felt so blessed to have been called there.....because that’s where you met your “soulmate” Paula!! You were quick to tell me about “Kelly” ~ she was your “Bonus” ....& that Paula & you wanted to have more children. I was there the day you married her & you had been there when Rich & I walked down the aisle years before. I was happy to have painted an oil on canvas to present to you when you left Downtown Tulsa.....just so you’d never forget me. You took that thing to Texas with you ~ I believe it was Killeen. Gosh, I missed those hugs those years after you crossed the Red River. I’m so thankful David Benson called me & met me in Tulsa to attend your Mom’s service. Again, our hug was as meaningful as it had ever been. You were always so kind, so witty, so heartfelt with your friendship. I’ll never forget you or your impact on my life. You are in my heart forever & I’ll always remember the special times we shared as good friends. It was an honor to know you. My Love to David Long, to Kelly & Zach ~ you don’t know me, but I knew so much about you ~ Doug was always so Proud when he shared about you (& his grandkids!!). He was truly a Gift from God ~ I Rejoice in knowing we’ll meet again. I’m sure he’ll have a corny joke & that grin on his face & that unique laugh waiting for us when we arrive in Heaven. The Celebration of Life was so well presented ~ very Befitting Doug Long & Honoring Our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ! My gratitude for all you did to bring comfort to us all who were unable to attend. May God Bless You All Beyond Measure ~ Always Remember ~ You Have A Guardian Angel Looking Over You 💝 With Love & Sincere Condolences, Barbie Hicks Flanary

I met Doug in 1973 when we were both working for JC Penney in Tulsa. I had just started as a trainee and Doug was working part time as he was attending Tulsa University. We became very good friends and for several years we rented an apartment together. Doug was a fun person to be around and he had an infectious laugh that would get you laughing. After a few years, we went our separate ways with Penney's, but always stayed in touch. I have too many memories to post here but enjoyed each and every one. I will miss you. Until we meet again.

The Love Doug showed others was inspiring and he shared God’s word through his actions every day. He always had a smile on his face and was always willing to help a fellow JCPenney manager. After retirement we stayed in touch and had a connection with The United Methodist Church. I will miss him and hope to see him again singing and dancing with our Lord.

Doug was one of a kind, we met when I started working for him at JCP in Stephenville. He took me under his wing and he and Paula became such wonderful friends to me and my family. When Paula left us we propped each other up,my husband lives overseas and he knew how hard that was for me. Weekly meet ups for lunch to talk about our families became our normal routine, cruising the lake, going to the Theater where he likes to perform. He invited me to join our local Lions Club and we did our Meals on Wheels routes together as much as possible just so we could visit. He was a wonderful friend and sometimes advisor of life. He will be missed so very much by my family and myself. Kelly, Zach and family thank you for sharing you father, he loved you all so very much and was so proud of you.

It is an honor to leave an expression of comfort for the LONG family about DOUG LONG. I live in Broken Arrow, OK and a neighbor of David, (Doug's brother). Doug and Paula came often, that is how I met them. I knew them as "family" and loved both of them as "friends". My heart is grieved and sadden at this loss. Doug was always such a gentle man with a Christ-like spirit. I give thanks to our Christ, that Doug and Paula are in our future. To the family, I say, we will see them again ---Remember, "...To be absent from the body, is to be present with the LORD" (2Co 5/8) WHAT BETTER PLACE ? I am keeping all of you lifted up in prayer, GOD WILL SUSTAIN YOU.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Doug and I worked together in Killen, Tx. 1990-92. Soon after I moved to Greenspoint Houston I had an opportunity to bring Doug to Greenspoint as Sales Support Mgr. where we worked together for five years. His people skills were suberb...everyone loved Doug. He was a friend as well as employee. I will miss him. Condolences to his family.

The Longs lived two doors north of us in Dix, IL and we had some wonderful fun as playmates growing up. Doug was a great guy largely because he (and David) had some of the best parents ever to walk the Earth! Our deepest condolences to David and Doug's family in this time of grief!

Doug and I have known each other for 45 years, and we were dating back in the 70's and 80's. He was one of the managers for the Tulsa JCP. He was the most amazing guy. Witty, clever, caring genuine and a blessing to hang out with. We re-connected on Facebook and I'm so thankful we had a chance to share our memories and make a few new ones over the last few years. He will be in my heart forever and so glad he is in the arms of Miss Paula. Although I never had the chance to meet her, I felt like I had known her through Doug. He was one of a kind and we lost a treasure. The angels have gained another saint! xoxo
