Iris Mae, 95, went to be with the Lord on September 27, 2021, in Granbury, TX. A celebration of life will be held at a later date due to Covid concerns and family obligations. Her cremains will
be interred beside her beloved Geoff at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
She was born on July 19, 1926, in Taylor, TX to Amasa Blevins Campbell and Ivy Dora Pagel Campbell in her parents’ garage. She grew up in Austin, TX and graduated from Austin High School in
1943. She then went to the University of Texas, Austin and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She spent many years as a school teacher in Alice, TX, Premont, TX
and Corpus Christi, TX. She touched the lives of so many children in her 20+ years in the classroom and remained in touch with some of them through Facebook.
While at the University of Texas, she met, and fell in love with her soon to be husband, Edward Geoffrey Kemp. They were married in June 1949 for 56 years until his death in 2005. Kay Lynn was
born in 1951, Edward Geoffrey III (Trey) was born in 1954 and Byron Lee was born in 1956.
Iris and Geoff lived overseas in Sumatra from 1980-1984 and then moved to Granbury, TX in 1984. They both loved to travel and went on several sea cruises and river cruises to Germany, Italy,
Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, Scotland, China, Japan, Russia, South America and many more. When not traveling, she loved to play golf, dance with the DeCordova Rockettes and play bridge at
DeCordova Bend Estates. She was president of the Ladies Golf Association in 1992 and played golf well into her 80’s.
Iris had a firecracker personality and had many friends both overseas and in Granbury. You always knew where she was and how she felt because she did not have an indoor voice. Loud is an
understatement. You could hear her from one side of the golf course to the other.
Iris was preceded in death by her husband Geoff, her youngest son, Byron, her parents, her mother and father-in-law, her sister and brother-in-law and Geoff’s brother and sister in law. She is
survived by her daughter Kay and son in law, Marvin, her son, Trey, her brother AB and his wife, Lunell, and many nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to the staff at Waterview, The Cove, for her care the last few months. Thank you, thank you to Denise, Stacy, Paige, Maggie, Karon, Robert, Carolina, Mark, Rio and Alex.
