Joe “Hank” Henry Pope

Joe Henry Pope, 70, passed from this earthly life on November 12, 2020 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Service:  A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 21, 2020  at Bethesda Community Church, 4700 North Beach Street, Haltom City, Texas, 76137.

Visitation:  The visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, November 20, 2020, at Bethesda Community Church.

Graveside:  A graveside service will be held immediately following the funeral service at Birdville Cemetery, Haltom City, Texas.

Joe Henry “Hank” Pope was born January 12, 1950 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Frank Harris Pope and Donna Earldean Karr Pope.  Hank lived most of his life in Haltom City, Texas.

Hank loved music and his Martin guitar that he play often. He worked for many years at McBrayer’s Award Piano as a salesman before he entered his lifelong career as a police officer.

He began working in law enforcement for Haltom City in 1976 where he became the Assistant Chief of Police. He worked as a homicide detective and crime against person’s detective for the Arlington Police Department, Executive Chief Deputy at the Tarrant County Sheriff’s office, and Senior Detective at the University of Texas in Arlington.  He retired as Chief of Police of Reno, Texas.

Bethesda Community Church was his home church for many years.

Hank loved old cemeteries and the history you could find there. He enjoyed metal detecting, engraving guns, and playing his Martin guitar. He was a great artist and loved to draw.

In his free time, he loved watching old westerns and black and white movies. Even in his last days, he could tell you all about the actors and actresses from the old movies.

Hank loved his wife and family and will be greatly missed.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Donna Earldean Pope and spouse, Karen Wright Pope.

He is survived by his daughter, Sasha Waldie and husband Jason of North Richland Hills, Texas, son, Justin Pope of Fort Worth, Texas, daughter, Lyndsey Akers and husband Shawn of Fort Worth, Texas, and brother Frank Pope and wife Judy of Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He is also survived by grandchildren, Kendale Burt, Hunter Tooman, Joey Pope, Jayce Espinoza, and Paris Espinoza, and a host of nieces and nephews.
