Born and raised in San Antonio Texas, John attended Edison High School and moved on to The University of Texas in Austin. He graduated with a degree in Radio/TV and Communications. His career began as a TV news anchor in Austin, Odessa, and then back to San Antonio. He was a co-founder of Data Graphics Computer Company, and eventually moved on into his career at Southwestern Bell and AT&T in marketing. After his retirement, he continued to do training seminars for various companies. He had a passion for planes, trains, and automobiles. He was a magician, storyteller, joker, world traveler, music lover, avid boater, hunter, gamer, ham radio operator, and so much more. He was loved greatly by his family, friends, His San Antonio/Hill Country “brothers”, and his friends at The Firehouse Cafe in Granbury.

He is survived by his daughter Laura Webber (Scott), grandson Grayson Webber, granddaughter Kaitlyn Thompson, 1st wife Susan Thompson, Step-niece Stephanie McClure (Scot), step- grandnieces Berkley, Bailey Krenek (Stephen) and his beloved dog Dexter.

He is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Sue Thompson, and son Scott A. Thompson.

Memorial service will be held at Granbury First Methodist Church
